**Title: Tragedy Strikes Trenton as Unauthorized Block Party Ends in Shootout**

**Content:**

In a tragic turn of events, a festive atmosphere at an unauthorized block party in Trenton turned deadly early Sunday morning. Mercer County Prosecutor's Office is now leading the investigation into the shooting, which left two people dead and eight others injured. The community is reeling from the loss, with residents expressing shock and frustration over the incident.

The gathering, which took place on the 100 block of Locust Street, drew over 100 attendees on Saturday night. According to police, the situation spiraled out of control after midnight when suspects opened fire on the crowd. Dispatch audio from the scene revealed the chaos, with dispatchers reporting multiple gunshot victims, including one shot in the head and two others in the chest.

The deceased victims are a 33-year-old woman and a 42-year-old man, whose identities have not yet been released. Mayor Reed Gusciora highlighted the man's recent recognition at an event for rebuilding his life after incarceration, noting the tragedy's impact on the community. "10 victims is unconscionable," Gusciora stated, emphasizing the need for residents to request permits for such gatherings.

Despite reports suggesting that the police had been monitoring the crowd, residents questioned how the gathering went unnoticed. Grace Fernandez, a Trenton resident, expressed disbelief, stating, "This was 12:30 in the morning. They are 3 blocks from here. The police comes around here. There is no way they didn't notice all these people here."

Police Director Steve Wilson acknowledged the presence of officers at the scene but emphasized that such events can still turn violent. "Even sometimes with the presence of police these things happen, and it's unfortunate that it's that way," Wilson said. He also highlighted the presence of individuals intent on destruction, regardless of the situation.

Mayor Gusciora announced that the city is taking proactive steps to prevent unauthorized gatherings and urged residents to report suspicious activities. "Our prayers go out to the families and the victims, but this can be prevented in the future," Gusciora said. He encouraged residents to say something if they see something, emphasizing the importance of community vigilance in maintaining neighborhood safety.

No arrests have been made as of yet, and detectives are reviewing surveillance footage and seeking any information or video from the public. Authorities are asking anyone with information to contact the police.

The Trenton community is in mourning, with local businesses and residents offering their condolences to the families of the victims. Local organizations are also stepping up to provide support and resources to those affected by the tragedy.

As the investigation continues, the city of Trenton is grappling with the harsh reality of gun violence and the need for stricter regulations on public gatherings. The incident has sparked a broader conversation about safety and community responsibility, with many hoping that such tragedies can be prevented in the future.
